Convoy
for a Cure is a unique event to raise funds for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Region and celebrate the role of females in the trucking industry. Founded last year by a long-haul driver from Gatineau, Quebec,
the first fundraiser in Ontario raised $15,000. Now Alberta, Texas and New Brunswick will host the Convoy for the first time.
When I was asked to administrate and organize the Convoy for a Cure-NB, byJoann Millen , on behalf of Rachele
Champagne, founder of Convoy for the Cure, I couldn't say no to such an opportunity. What a great idea! An all female
convoy wearing Pink T-Shirts and Pink Ball Hats rolling down Trans-Canada Highway #2 from Salisbury to Aulac in decorated
units to promote breast cancer awareness and raise money.
My greatest challenges for the October 17th
event will be to find females to drive in the convoy, get the support of the trucking companies they drive for, solicit financial
support from businesses and trucking companies, and bring in lots of donations!
All donations go to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation - Atlantic Region. Sponsored funds offset the start up costs. Donated merchandise will be shared between the drivers either in their gift bags
or as awards, and given out as raffle prizes at the event. Each driver will also solicit pledges from their friends,
families and co-workers. The female who raises the greatest amount of money will lead the Convoy.Second and third place winners
will follow directly behind the lead.
The day will be fun for the entire family with music, BBQ, prize draws, and
an opportunity to meet the drivers and see their trucks.
On October 17th support us with cheers and
waves as we roll down the highway or meet up with us at either of the Irving Big Stops. We will be a driving force, battling
breast cancer, and in time we will win.
Let's
drive out cancer one truck at a time!
